Short Bio
Copernicus University in Torun (Poland). Her thesis, which she worked on under Prof. Wojciech Kujawski’s supervision, focused on the hydrophobization/functionalization of ceramic materials (metal oxide powders and ceramic membranes) and extended material, physicochemical and tribological characterization. The modified membranes were subsequently applied in separation processes (different types of membrane distillation and pervaporation). Her PhD was realized in cooperation with the European Membrane Institute in Montpellier (France).
In October 2015 Dr. Joanna Kujawa was employed as a Research in Chair of Physical Chemistry and Physicochemistry of Polymers at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun (Poland). She is also working in many other fields such as fabrication of polymeric membranes with inorganic particles and hybrid organic-inorganic membranes for separation processes; and application of polymeric membranes in food and beverage industry. She is involved in collaborative research with the European Membrane Institute in Montpellier (France); University of Oulu, Department of Process and Environmental Engineering (Finland); and Department of Polymer & Carbon Materials, Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland). She has visited the European Membrane Institute in Montpellier and University of Oulu during her internships in the frame of the LLP Erasmus Program, Erasmus+ as well as Polonium program. Apart from these, she has been involved in several projects as a co-investigator. Moreover, she worked in various projects as a principal-investigator.
She worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department Chemical Engineering, Masdar Institute, UAE. Her research focused on the broad material and physicochemical characterization of new types of membranes. Her main goals related to understanding and correlating material and physicochemical properties with membrane wetting, stability and membrane performance.
