Short Bio

Dr. Sudep Chakaraborthy, a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, has research interest in array of topics which include membrane fabrication and development and membrane bioreactors using nanoparticles (inorganic /organic). He is also working in many other fields such as downstream purification of chemical processes, wastewater treatment, renewable energy as well as biofuels. At Masdar Institute, Dr. Sudep’s research primarily focused on testing and understanding the fouling mechanism of various physic-chemical processes in the air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) process by studying commercial membranes as well as developing new membranes and assessing them. The assessment of the novel membrane fabrication was studied for the application of pharmaceutical waste treatment. Dr. Sudep also focuses on understanding the membrane fouling mechanisms and their influence on MD membrane wetting, distillate quality and overall MD process performance. A big part of his research has been focusing on determining the effect of the morphology of MD membranes on the wetting processes including the effect of different antiscalants.

He is also involved in collaborative research with many European universities as well as in research funded by the European Commission. He has visited many different universities all over Europe and India for research collaboration. Apart from these, he has been involved in several project activities as co-Principal Investigator/ co-Coordinator, funded by DST (Department of Science and Technology) and DBT (Department of Biotechnology) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India. Dr. Chakaraborthy has published more than 35 research publication in high impact journal as well as conference proceedings. Dr. Chakaraborthy has also chaired technical sessions in many international conferences along with keynote lectures. Apart from this, he has authored several book chapters related to his diverse areas of interest. He is a member of many different professional bodies like the European Membrane Society, Finnish Catalysis Society, American Oil Chemists Society, and the Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES). Dr. Chakaraborthy is serving the scientific community as a reviewer of many SCI journals including guest editor for several special issues published by Elsevier. He is also serving as an editorial board member of Redfame Publications, USA as well as  the American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
